Pyle and Kenfig and Royal Porthcawl
Champion Golfer of the Year:
GARETH REES

We enjoyed ourselves so much in North Wales in 2018 that we decided to see what the best of South Wales had to offer 12 months later. We warmed up at Royal Porthcawl and then played the first tournament round at Pyle & Kenfig (“P&K”) before returning to Royal Porthcawl the next day for the final round.
P&K is one of the UK’s hidden gems and its back-nine is every bit as memorable and glorious as Hillside’s (and there are few larger compliments available). Royal Porthcawl is a genuine thoroughbred in terms of golf links and is a “must-play” for any serious golfer. It was still suffering from the drought the year before but was still a fantastic track. The conditions were tough and saw the cream once again rising to the top, with Mr Rees claiming his 5th title. What can you say - he’s a title-winning machine.
We frequented a very nice hotel on the sea front and enjoyed some fine food at the local sea-food restaurants. The nightlight was a little “young” but we ingratiated ourselves and go thoroughly beaten on the pool table. Certain members also performed remarkable feats of derring-do on Rolfey’s new electric scooter.
